Sad week, lost a few giants in the comic field and this man here...Big thanks for introducing his work to me, it has affected me profoundly.
You're welcome. I too feel affected by both his work and his death. It is a spur to re-read and re-examine, and re-think as well. I have read a number of people's responses to his extinction and I'm sure he's laughing his arse off at the reaction. But only if there really IS a heaven...;-)
Have you ever heard anything as bat-shit brave as this? "So far, I have decided to take whatever my disease can throw at me, and to stay combative even while taking the measure of my inevitable decline. I repeat, this is no more than what a healthy person has to do in slower motion. It is our common fate."I mean, we all do it...we are now or we will be, so it is not so much a physical bravery as an existential one. I dropped a curtsy to his spot on my bookshelf. I wonder if he experienced Steve Jobs' "Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow."
Hitchens' eloquence makes me sick with envy.
